Overview

Koinpoint is a mobile-first platform that allows users to buy and sell crypto assets (BTC, ETH, USDT), perform gift card transactions, and top up their data and airtime—all in one place. The mission was simple: cut the fluff and kill the stress of trading crypto in Africa. I set out to create a sleek, intuitive product that merges crypto utility with everyday life services, giving users a one-stop shop that’s fast, simple, and accessible.

The Problem

In Nigeria and the African continent at large, buying and selling crypto is usually a messy, confusing process. Between navigating clunky apps, dodging sketchy vendors, and dealing with inconsistent platforms, the average user ends up wasting time, money, or both.

Common user complaints:

  • Long and stressful onboarding processes

  • Overly complex flows just to make simple trades

  • Lack of trust in platforms

  • No way to easily fund everyday needs like airtime and data

There was a huge opportunity to build a clean, simple, trust-first platform that made trading crypto feel like sending a text.

The Solution: Koinpoint

Koinpoint offers an ultra-simplified experience where:

  • Users can purchase BTC, ETH, or USDT with ease

  • Gift card exchanges happen seamlessly

  • Airtime and data top-ups are available directly within the app

  • Everything runs on clean UX, tight flows, and zero unnecessary steps

My Role

I led the entire product design process from zero to final prototype in just three weeks:

  • Defined the information architecture

  • Conducted user research to uncover local pain points

  • Sketched out and tested low-fidelity wireframes

  • Delivered high-fidelity screens and full interactive prototypes

  • Prioritized UX clarity and speed over clutter and complexity

Design Philosophy

I built Koinpoint around simplicity, trust, and speed. No hidden steps. No confusing jargon. Just clean visuals and fast actions. The design goal was: “If your grandma can use WhatsApp, she should be able to use Koinpoint.”

Standout Design Principles:

  • Minimal flow to complete a transaction

  • Instant access to key actions like buy, sell, top-up

  • Use of familiar mobile patterns to lower the learning curve

  • Local context awareness—designed for how people in Nigeria actually use financial apps

Core Features

  1. Crypto Purchase & Sale

    • BTC, ETH, and USDT transactions

    • Instant rate check and confirmation

    • Swift wallet-to-wallet processes

  1. Gift Card Exchange

    • Quick quote and trade flow

    • Upload and verify in one step

  1. Airtime & Data Top-Ups

  • Available for all major Nigerian networks

  • Pay with wallet balance or card

  1. Dashboard & History

  • Track recent activities

  • Smart shortcuts to core features

  1. Security

  • Secure authentication

  • Clear transaction history and PIN-protected actions

Design Process

  • Week 1: Discovery, research, and user pain-point mapping

  • Week 2: IA, wireframes, and iterative testing

  • Week 3: High-fidelity UI, interactive prototype, and design handoff

Everything was scoped tightly to maximize user value and minimize bloat.

Outcome

Koinpoint’s design was completed on schedule with a final prototype that’s currently positioned for development. It’s sleek, intuitive, and tailor-made for real-world crypto users in Nigeria.

What I Learned:

  • Speed matters—users want fast decisions and even faster actions

  • Designing for local markets means empathy over aesthetics

  • Fewer steps = more trust in financial platforms

  • And most importantly: if it looks simple, it’s probably well-designed
